Description
Do Cake Strips really work?! I used to think they were just extra work and not worth it until I realised they are the secret to baking beautiful, flat cake layers. This post talks you through cake strips, how to use them, and how to make DIY Cake strips. I promise you the extra few minutes is worth it!
Ingredients
- Cake Recipe of your choice (I used my Vanilla Cake Recipe)
- Cake Strips - Either purpose made cake strips, mine are Wilton Bake Even Strips or see the body of the post for DIY cake strips
Instructions
- Grease and line your pans per the recipe. If you are using cloth cake strips, soak them in cold water while you make the cake batter. I like to put mine on after I weigh the batter into the pans, but I fit the strips to the pans before I soak them so that I am not trying to wrangle wet cake strips.
- You want your cake strips to be wet, but not dripping - I like to soak them and then gently wring out.
- If you are making your own cake strips from foil and paper towel, or an old towel, fit them before you add the batter to the pan.
- Bake the cake as directed - if you use cake strips you may need to adjust the bake time a little, so go by the visual cues for the recipe rather than the baking time.
