Description

Pizza Sauce doesn't have to be fancy. My 2 ingredient, no cook pizza sauce is made with two things - Salt and Canned Tomatoes. That's it - I promise it is that simple. Whip this homemade pizza sauce up in no time for the perfect base for your pizza toppings!

Ingredients

Scale
  • One 28oz (794g) can of good quality crushed or whole tomatoes
  • 3g salt (see notes), or more or less to taste

Instructions

  1. Place the tomatoes into a medium bowl. Either with clean hands or an immersion blender (depending on how chunky you like your sauce), squish or blend the tomatoes to your desired consistency.
  2. Add salt to taste, mix well and adjust if necessary. Add other seasonings if using.
  3. Store pizza sauce in the fridge in an airtight container for up to week or in the freezer for up to a few months.

Notes

Different salts are different levels of saltiness (that feels so silly to type), so going by weight is important. If you're worried about adding too much, just hold back on the salt, taste, and add more or less if needed. I use diamond crystal kosher salt, where 1 tsp is 3g. If you use a different kind of salt, it may not be 3g to 1 tsp.

If you want to add anything else such as herbs, chilli flakes or oil, go for it! Taste and adjust as needed.

How much you process your pizza sauce is totally up to you. If you like it a little more chunky (which I do when I am keeping the toppings simple like for a cheese pizza, margherita pizza or a pepperoni pizza), I like to squish whole tomatoes with my hands. If you want it smoother you can do it in a blender (do not over process) or with an immersion / stick blender. It really just depends on how you feel on the day!
