How to make Homemade Hot Cross Buns

These hot cross buns have a soft fruity dough and a pastry cream cross.

Make pastry cream and transfer to a piping bag

Combine the dry ingredients and spices in a bowl. Add in the liquid.

Add the fruit and knead well to incorporate

Transfer the dough to a bowl and leave to rise

Divide risen dough and shape each into a ball. Arrange in the pan.

Leave to rise then score with a razor blade to make a trench for the pastry cream cross

Pipe pastry cream into the crosses

Bake again and then brush with the syrup
